Lets face it: data computing and analyzation has become an integral part of most of our everyday lives. Data management is becoming even more important than ever, from managing email folders to protecting passwords to knowing where to save your data.
While managing this data may not be a fun task, lets have some fun by analyzing the types of data flying around the web today:
There are 247 BILLION email messages sent per day, or 2.8 million a second! (80% of which are unfortunately spam and viruses).
50 million tweets a day , or 600 tweets per second, are sent out full of micro-blog content.
People spend over 500 billion minutes per month on Facebook, with the average user creating 70 pieces of content a month. Facebook’s blog goes into more detail on user statistics here.
YouTube experiences 2 billion video views a day, hundreds of thousands of which are uploaded every day. Fun fact: every minute, 24 hours worth of video are uploaded!
Google receives almost 3 billion searches per day, with Twitter slowly creeping up with almost 700,000 searches a day.
49% of businesses reported data loss in the last two years and another 49% of small businesses do not backup their data on a daily basis.
Wow, we are evidently quite busy on the Internet!
With almost all of our work and personal lives residing in some way or another on the web, it is no wonder why so much data is circulating around. However, with added circulation, additional passwords, more files, and increased multitasking comes user error, a cause of 31% of all data loss.
While having fun on the Internet by exchanging pictures with friends, updating your status, tweeting out your favorite blog post or sending an email to an old co-worker, always be on the lookout for malicious messages, unfamiliar emails, third party cookies or plug-ins, etc.
The Internet was designed to be a social space, so lets keep it that way, just be aware of how much you share and where.
