Why Backup Twitter?

The most popular use of our service is to backup Twitter. It has surprised us because we wonder why exactly anyone would want to backup a tool that is seen by so many as a waste of time. We don’t think Twitter is a waste of time, and we do find it very useful for certain types of communication, but compared to things like Wordpress or Basecamp, Twitter backup just doesn’t seem nearly as important. So why is backing up Twitter the most popular use of Backupify? Here are a few answers we have received from our own customers.

1. Twitter history is not easy to access. Twitter has all of your old tweets, but they only make the most recent 3200 available. By backing up your tweets, you make it easy to go find them if you need them.

2. User deletion could cause a problem. Many of our customers are PR firms and Social Media consultants who manage Twitter accounts for their users. Some of them have employees or interns who do much of the actual posting and they are concerned that some tweets could, for whatever reason, be accidentally or intentionally deleted. If they backup Twitter, then they don’t have that problem.

3. Backup is just good business practice. Email archiving has moved out of the compliance world and is now something companies do just as a standard “best practice.” Social media backup will follow the same path.

So if you have a Twitter account, you should consider backing it up. You can sign up with us and it’s free. We backup your Twitter profile, all tweets, direct messages, @ replies, favorites, and more. We even let you create a nice PDF of all your backed up tweets.

Twitter is like a mini diary. While I'm incredibly lax about keeping a written journal, I usually tweet something about important events in my life. It's nice to have an idea of when things happened. (I don't exactly have a great sense of time.)
